All registered full-time Bates students are required to have health insurance coverage that provides non-emergency care in the state of Maine, either through this Student Health Insurance Plan or through another individual or family plan. Details about the level of coverage required can be found on the Health Services website.
Students who know they want or need to enroll in the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan should complete the steps for Enrollment here as soon as possible to assure your ability to attend Bates, and access the benefits on the policy effective date.
Domestic students must take action to either waive or enroll in the Bates College SHIP through their Garnet Gateway account. The waive/enrollment period ends 05/21/2025. Domestic students who do not take any action or have a declined waiver will automatically be enrolled. Students with comparable coverage who want to request to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan must provide proof of comparable coverage by completing the waiver process and uploading a pdf or jpeg file of the front and back of their current health insurance ID card. A waiver is considered approved upon the receipt of the “Waiver Approved” confirmation email. The waiver status is also shown in the student’s Wellfleet online account.
